A year ago… make Vancouver now
Next weekend marks the first anniversary of the 2010 Winter Olympics and vancouverites have not forgotten the glory of last year.
The weekend of the 11 February-12, this piece of the Pacific Northwest is hosting a series of commemorative events. They include everything from lighting the Olympic flame at a National Hockey League game. To make all this more accessible, hotels in Vancouver are imposing some decidedly decent rates this time of year.
Here is a sample of what happens:
Mix and mingle: If you’re not lonely type and celebrate with the company head to Granville Street on February 12, one of the first city of collection points during the games. From noon to 9 pm see street performers, street hockey and the Lunar Festival Parade.
Mix and mingle at max: rue Granville events prove too calm consider Yaletown, perhaps neighbourhood trendiest Vancouver. Illuminate Yaletown is a two days (February 11 and 12) Street celebration featuring spectacular light installations by local artists.
Applaud the Canucks: Hockey anyone? The Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames fly across the ice on February 12. The game begins at 7 p.m. at the arena of Rogers. It was planned to include Olympic tribute.
Relive the light: gather at Jack Poole Plaza at 4 p.m. Feb. 12 for the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. Bring your camera.
Family: If you are travelling with children from the Recreation Centre of Creekside you covered. It is the site of a free, family-friendly collection February 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., features are a range of Olympic and Paralympic Games-themed events. There is a race of sledge hockey, Wii sports of winter Olympic pin trading, and a big-screen TV showing highlights of the 2010 Games.
On the slopes: feeling a little adventurous? Ski mountain of Cyprus, where the Canada won his first gold of the 2010 Games. After a good run, head of Crazy Raven Bar & Grill and bragging rights on a beer.
Grousing about: signature peak Vancouver area the Grouse Mountain is open 24 hours a day on February 12 and 13. This means that you can ski, snowboarding, snow, skate, ice Zipline or dinner until you’re ready to fall.
Fabulous flicks: some people like to climb Rocky Mountains hiking try paths and beautiful backcountry skiing. Others like to look at. Everything is worth checking your persuasion at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival. Some of these films just might let breathtaking.
You need a place to stay: Summertime is when the hotel rates are highest. Making February a good time to go. Here are a few ideas.
